Ladle Update
Since January 1st The Ladle Fellowship has served 4,776 people over 5,578 hot meals and distributed 2,915 articles of clothing. On behalf of the urban poor, the homeless, and the hungry of downtown San Diego; thank you FPC family!  If you or someone you know would like to sponsor a complete Ladle Fellowship meal, please contact Will Braswell @ will.braswell@fpcsd.org. It costs less than you think to do more than you know. For the past 5 months the Ladle Fellowship has been happy to supply the tasty treats in the courtyard between services. We wish to thank you all for your continued support of the Ladle Coffee Cart.

Saturday May 5-Date Change!!! – Swinging for Liberia
A benefit for St. Paul’s School in Liberia, West Africa, the sister school of our own City Tree School and a school that FPC members and others helped rebuild after Liberia’s Civil War.  Funds raised will help run the school and build a cafeteria/library addition which will provide space for Sunday and ongoing worship.  The Gala will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012, 6 PM at “The Abbey” 2825 Fifth Ave. San Diego 92101.  Dinner, dancing and a silent auction; on site child care (ages 4 to 6th Grade.)  Tickets, $30 in advance and $40 at the door, can be purchased by calling (858) 539-0954 X101 or online at: www.growingliberiaschildren.org.  Can’t come? Donations are very helpful!

Tuesday May 8 – Clippers
Clippers will meet Tuesday May 8 at 6 PM in the West Room.  After our pot luck dinner, we will hold the annual auction which raises funds for Missions.

Operation Blessing Update
Thank you to our 43 Operation Blessing volunteers as well as our numerous contributors. With your help we were able to provide food for 48 active military personnel and their families, plus 29 retired veterans; for a total of 264 individuals being helped.  Special thanks to the FPC youth who were on hand to man the grocery carts. You were a blessing. You can still help Ladle! We are in need of blankets, mens and women’s jackets (all sizes), XL mens & womens sweatshirts, mens pants & shoes plus toiletries including shampoo.
Don’t forget to sample and support the Ladle Coffee Cart goodies between services.

City Tree Scholarship Month!

April 27th thru 28th—30 Hour Famine sponsored by FPC Student Ministries
Our senior high and middle school youth will be participating in a 30 Hour Famine where our youth will be raising funds for our Compassion Child in Ghana and for Ladle Fellowship.  The famine begins at 12 noon and ends at 6 pm the next day for our youth.  We ask youth to come at 8 pm on Friday and end with youth being picked up at FPC at 3:30 pm the next day.  We will be helping out with Operation Blessing, as well as having a fun excursion at San Diego Ice Center doing broomball.  We will be raising the awareness of hunger in the world through this project.  Please talk to Peter Joseph for more info at peter.joseph@fpcsd.org.

April 29 -  Get to Know Dr. John Boateng
Dr. John Boateng, Regional Coordinator of the Luke Society in Africa, and head of the Medical Clinic in Kasei, Ghana, will be with us from April 26-29.  The Luke Society is an interdenominational organization of Christian health and business professionals dedicated to medical missions, supporting indigenous Christian health professionals on six continents.  Dr. Boateng is a dear friend and facilitator of the mission experiences for our BASIC teams that have visited the village of Kasei over the last two years.  Dr. Boateng will preach at Jazz Vespers Saturday and both Sunday services, April 28 & 29. During the adult Sunday school hour, Dr. Boateng will share his inspiring life story, how the village of Kasei is developing, and answer questions about all of Africa.

Dorothy Chaffin, mother of Cindy Butler, passed away on April 4, 2012. A worship service celebrating the resurrection and remembering  Dorothy’s life will be held Friday, April 20 at 1 P.M. in the First Presbyterian Church Chapel with a reception following in the West Room.

Dr. John Boateng, Regional Coordinator of the Luke Society in Africa, and head of the Medical Clinic in Kasei, Ghana, will be with us from April 26-29.  The Luke Society is an interdenominational organization of Christian health and business professionals dedicated to medical missions, supporting indigenous Christian health professionals on six continents.  Dr. Boateng is a dear friend and facilitator of the mission experiences for our BASIC teams that have visited the village of Kasei over the last two years.  The weekend will provide some opportunities for you to get to know him and his work better:  Friday, April 27, 7:00 – 9:00 pm, at the home of Jerry and Lois Andrews. Health professionals can enjoy a conversation with Dr. John regarding the work of the Luke Society, the Kasei Medical Clinic, and the Emmanuel Eye Clinic.  Dr. Boateng will preach at Jazz Vespers Saturday and both Sunday services, April 28 & 29. During the adult Sunday school hour, Dr. Boateng will share his inspiring life story,how the village of Kasei is developing, and answer questions about all of Africa.

This Friday at 6:30pm we will celebrate the graduation of a group of men and women from the San Diego Rescue Mission in the FPC Sanctuary. Our very own members Robert Hudson, Chris Barbara, Dylan DiDuca, and Josh Hershberger will be graduating! Chris Barbara and Dylan DiDuca will also be sharing their testimonies. Jerry Andrews will be speaking and we invite you to join us!

April 15 – New Academy of Faith Classes

Thank you to all of our wonderful FPC volunteers that made Easter Sundays Ladle meal such a delightful event. Thank you also to Yale and Judy Combs for the delicious ham dinner, the potatoes were an absolute hit! Ladle still needs men’s and women’s jackets, sweatshirts  and pants. “OPERATION “Blessing” is coming up on the 28th. Easter Egg Hunt Praise Report
Children’s Ministry would like to thank the congregation for it’s support of our Community Easter Egg Hunt.  Your donations helped to make it a great success.  The volunteers who helped greet families and hide Easter eggs were invaluable. We stuffed and hid about 1100 Easter eggs. We were able to engage over a hundred people at the Easter Egg Hunt, most of which have never attended a FPC event. Thank you again for all your support in reaching out to our neighbors.
