CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."        --Deut 6:5-7

Here at FPC we strive to create a place where children learn the life-giving knowledge of Scripture, gain biblical understanding of what a relationship with Jesus Christ means and be transformed by that relationship. We seek to provide children and their families with a community of believers that encourage one another in nurturing their spiritual development.

Sunday Morning

Sunday School is held between the two worship services, generally from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. (Note that babies and children up to age 4 may be dropped off at the preschool room after 8:15 a.m.). See below for a brief introduction to FPC's Sunday morning offerings for our children. For more information on children’s ministry, call our Director of Christian Education, Peggy Gross, at  619-232-7513 or email her at peggy.gross@fpcsd.org.

Preschool (Ages 0-4)

We provide a loving safe environment for children ages birth through 4 years.  We also have a mother’s nursing room with a TV broadcast of the worship service located in the Prayer Room behind the sanctuary.

Our Early Childhood classes for children in this age group open at 8:15 a.m. and are located on the first floor of the Christian Education building. Parents check children into room 103 where they will be divided into age-appropriate classes. All parents will be given a silent pager that vibrates when activated, which allows parents to be contacted if they are needed. Parents present the pager to pick up their child. Parents are always welcome to stay with their child if needed.

We use Faithweaver Sunday School Curriculum by Group Publishing for children starting at 2 years old. Lessons are given during both worship hours and our Sunday School hour at 9:45-10:45 a.m.

Grades Kindergarten-5th

8:30 a.m. Worship

Children K-5th grade attend worship with their parents. Children are excused during the service and taken to the Scout Room on the lower level, where they participate in worshiping God, kid-style, with Faithweaver’s Kids Own Worship curriculum. At 9:45 a.m. children are taken to the Geneva Room for Sunday School.

9:45 a.m. Sunday School

Children meet in the Geneva Room on the second floor of the Christian Education building, where we engage the scripture using a rotational model with storytelling, games, art, snacks, and a fabulous Scripture Memory Program. We use Faithweaver Friends curriculum that is a partner to our Kidz Worship curriculum to bring a deeper understanding of the Bible story. Parents may pick up their children from the Geneva Room at 10:50 a.m.

11:00 a.m. Worship

Children participate in worship with their parents until after the Children’s Story, when they are excused from the service and taken to the Scout room, located on the lower level of the church building. Parents should pick up their children in the Scout Room immediately following the Worship service.

Downtown Playdate

Downtown Playdate, San Diego is a joint partnership with City Tree Christian School to provide a place for parents to gather for fun and community. The group meets every Tuesday from 10 a.m. until noon at our facility, in the Scout Room. They have an activity of the day, a variety of crafts, music, book readings, and movement. It's a good opportunity to gather for fun, community and socialization for infants and toddlers. Playdate is provided at no cost to participants. Visit them on Facebook (click herefor more information and updates.
