Acts
18:1-17 - The Message of the Cross in Corinth
1.
Paul’s evangelistic strategy was to move from one strategic
city-center to the next, using the synagogue as his initial evangelistic
platform. What forum do we have in which we can try to persuade
people of the truth of the Gospel?
2. Later Paul described how he felt when he first came to Corinth
(1 Corinthians 2:1-4). Was Paul’s message unique to Corinth
(1 Corinthians 2:2)? How does his strategy relate to us today?
3. Although Corinth was known for its commercial wealth and sexual
promiscuity, the center of opposition came from religious people.
Why?
4. Did Paul react too strongly to the Jewish abuse that he received,
when he said, “Your blood be on your heads! I am innocent
of it. From now on I will go to the Gentiles?”
5. How did the vision Paul received one night impact his ministry?
What reassurance do you need to remain faithful and bold in your
service to Christ?
6. Gallio, proconsul of Achaia, seemed convinced that this was a
theological debate without political consequence. Why did the Lord
not provide an opportunity for Paul to speak when he was prepared
to do so (18:14)? Why did the Lord allow the Gospel to take root
under the umbrella of Judaism?
7. How does Paul’s experience in Corinth confirm God’s
direction in his evangelism? He was guided as to when, where, how,
and to whom he was meant to share the Gospel. Do you sense that
kind of direction in your life?
