Study Questions for October 24, 2004

Acts 14:1-28 - The Open Door of Faith

1. The advance of the Gospel was never easy. What makes it difficult today?
 
2. The reaction to Paul and Barnabas was extreme. It ranged from being worshiped as gods to being stoned as blasphemers. How did the disciples handle it?
 
3. What did Paul mean when he said, “In the past, [God] let all nations go their own way. Yet he has not left himself without testimony. . .”?
 
4. What accounted for the apostle Paul’s bold preaching and fearless attitude? How did he exemplify his statement in Galatians 2:20?
 
5. What did Paul and Barnabas mean when they said, “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God”?  If we took their admonition seriously would it impact our tendency to be disappointed with God when life is difficult?
 
6. On their return journey, Paul and Barnabas, did more than retrace their steps. What did they accomplish?
 
7. In what sense had they completed the work God had called and enabled them to do? Have you ever had sense that you completed a task that you were called to do by God’s grace?
