The Keys to Classroom
Management
Psalm 94:12 Proverbs
1:1-7; Proverbs 12:1; Proverbs 15:5, 32.
TEACHER
- The
primary teacher should not have to deal with behavior problems, it
is the responsibility of the assistant.
- Actively
involve the child by asking a question or favor.
- Point
out previous successes, and teach the child “what to do”
instead of what not to do
- Constantly
point out good behavior. Students usually want recognition, they will
try to get positive reinforcement.
- Use
“problem kids” as examples. They are usually trying to
get attention. Give it to them in a positive vs a negative way.
ASSISTANT
- If a
child is talking or misbehaving, move next to them and give them a
gentle verbal reminder to listen and pay attention.
- Set
consequences for inappropriate behavior and remind the child of consequences.
- It
is not appropriate to leave a child outside the classroom on their
own.
- Movement
& energy are O.K. You need to direct it where you want it to go.
